Fashion Design has been the ideal course for me for as long as I can remember. Fashion Design at Manchester Metropolitan University definitely confirmed this. The opportunity to gain the skills I need for my future career in the heart of a much loved city with enthusiastic tutors, made this programme perfect for me. The work I have displayed here is a sample of just a few of my favourite ways of working. There are definitely many more, increasing every time I experiment with fabrics and fibres. I enjoy being very experimental with my designs as I feel it's the best way of coming up with innovative, new ideas, developing them further still along the way. My enthusiasm for this programme continues to grow daily and the passion, drive and motivation to be a part of it, only does the same.

Examples Of Free-hand Fashion Ilustration

The above two examples show idea generation for a final garment for my current self-set 'Mad House' project. The illustrations below are examples from my fashion illustration sketch book from this project, inspired by other designers.

Timed Life Drawing

These drawings were completed as part of a life drawing workshop I took part in to improve my perception of the human body, something I felt would be extremely useful to my fashion illustration. We were given around 5 minutes to complete each of these.

Examples Of 3D Work

GCSE Dress inspired by lillies.

AS Level Bag inspired by a variety of artists for the 'Embellishment' project.

Examples Of Textile Development Ideas

These photos show examples of my creative use of textiles. I always try to be quite innovative with my textile ideas using uncommon fibres in ways that they are not intended to be used. I particularly enjoy the textures that can be given to certain fibres such as plastics and synthetics through heat and stitch.

Examples Of Drawing From Further Research

A favourite method of further researching a project title for me is to work with mixed media to create a variety of drawings in different styles. I feel mixed media gives me the greatest freedom in my work.

Indian Jewellery for Embellishment.
Bleach, acrylic paint and white pencil on tissue paper.

Inspired by the circus for the self-set 'Mad House' project.
Drawn using a wooden stick and ink.

Inspired again by the circus.
Drawn using acrylics and pencil.

Examples Of Initial Research

An example of a piece of my initial research in to a project title, in this case embellishment. Here, I have researched the title through photography, providing a range of strong primary research that I can then work from and use to inspire ideas for the rest of my project.
